From a love of plants to a practice built on them
Rooted in Harmony grew from a personal obsession with succulents and a frustration with gardens that looked beautiful in photos but struggled in real life. We wanted to design gardens that actually worked — that thrived with minimal intervention and grew more beautiful over time.
Our studio and demonstration garden — where every design idea is tested first.
A practice built on patience
We started with succulent classes — small groups, hands-on sessions, and a genuine belief that understanding plants changes how you garden. Those early classes taught us as much as they taught our students.
From there, the work expanded naturally into garden consultations and full design commissions. Each project is different, but the approach is always the same: listen to the site first, then design with what's already there.
"The most resilient garden is the one that works with its environment — not the one that fights it."
— Debbie McGinty, Rooted in Harmony
Our planting plans are detailed, practical, and written for real gardeners — not just horticulturalists. We include plant lists, placement guides, seasonal care notes, and honest advice about what will and won't work in your specific conditions.
We specialise in drought-tolerant and low-water gardens, with a particular love for succulents and Mediterranean-climate plants. These are species that reward patience and punish overwatering — which suits us perfectly.
On consultations and slow design
A garden consultation is a conversation. We visit your space, walk the site with you, and talk through what you want — and what the garden is already telling us. From there, we can offer advice on the spot or develop a full design brief.
We also teach. Our succulent classes run year-round, from beginner sessions on care and propagation to more advanced workshops on arrangement and design. Teaching keeps us connected to why we started — a genuine love of plants and the people who grow them.
Hands-on learning — the heart of every succulent class.
